We love URL shorteners. These web utilities are so useful and make long or machine generated web addresses memorable and shareable. We love these web apps so much, we’ve launched our own. We’re calling it chartr.us. We’re pulling the wraps off a pre-alpha version and letting everyone else kick the tires. Go ahead and try it, then come back and tell us what you think.
Why did we create chartr.us? We like many of the other shorteners out there like tinyURL, and bit.ly and others. We wanted a way to mange our own shrunken URLs and make sure we had one that did exactly what we need. With chartr.us we can shorten the URL and add a custom key word, or just let the software auto-generate a shortend URL. We also wanted to be sure that short links that we createwhen we need them. will be there
chartr.us is running on software called YOURLS written by Lester Chan and Ozh Richard. We selected to run YOURLS because of its ease of setup, flexibility of implementation, and light weight. YOURLS is already proving to be a great proof-of-concept that we’ll be able to implement into future projects.
We’re opening up chartr.us to do some testing and get some feedback. So go give it a try, and let us know what you think.
