Stressdesign is 10

10 Year AnniversaryStressdesign celebrates its 10 year anniversary all through 2010. The journey that began on January 21, 2000 has been filled with a tremendous wealth of experiences, achievements, and failures. Over the course of the next year we’ll be celebrating the past 3,650 days with events and special communication commemorating the history of stressdesign.

The past 10 years have introduced us to many great people that have been instrumental to our success and prosperity. We’ve had 8 employees come and go, with the staff at 7 today. Dozens of interns have taken advantage of our internship program and graduated with flying colors. We’ve had the good fortune of helping hundreds of clients develop brand identity programs, many receiving accolades from the press, design community, our clients customers, and our clients.
We’ll be launching an anniversary website, publish a time line and have events throughout the year. One of the first will be an open house in March, details will follow.

Thank you to everyone that has been involved with our success during these past 10 years. We couldn’t have done it without you. We’re looking forward to the next 10.

Boeing Dreamliner Maiden Flight

Recently, we had an opportunity to design a magazine feature on Boeing for Engineer Magazine. Today, the Boeing 787 Dreamliner made it’s maiden flight. This is an important day in aviation history, and Boeing, as the 787 is made mostly of high-performance composites. These composites are lighter and stronger than the aluminum and titanium commercial planes are typically constructed with.

The above clip from KIRO in Seattle documents the maiden flight. The 787 made its first flight, originally scheduled for 5 hours, but cut short by a west-coast weather system. The initial Dreamliner flight lasted approximately 3 hours. Boeing has a website dedicated to the first flight of the Dreamliner 787 with more information and videos.

Crowd-Sourced Advice for Students

Humbled Pie

Humble Pied originally started as a crowd-sourced AIGA student presentation, with friends and peers alike offering their words of wisdom within the creative industry. This site was created to house all of the great bits of advice, and to stimulate dialogues along the way.

Mig Reyes created Humble Pied as a way for students to have access to critical advice from top designers and creatives. And it’s not just one way. See some advice you like? Give it some love, add a comment or share via your Twitter profile.

All chat sessions are held with iChat video and recorded with ScreenFlow. Reyes then cleans up each interview was and edits with Adobe Photoshop and Adobe After Effects.

Syracuse First

Stressdesign is proud to be a supporter of Syracuse First. The primary objective of Syracuse First is to encourage Syracuse area residents to “Think Local” when they are considering where to make purchases, to “Buy Local” whenever possible and to “Be Local” by supporting businesses that make the Syracuse area unique.

“We want to increase market share to independent, locally-owned businesses by increasing awareness about the personal and community benefits of choosing local,” says Syracuse First founder Chris Fowler.

Other goals of the initiative are to provide a platform for local businesses to network and share best practices; devise strategies to help underemployed individuals become more actively engaged in the economy; and advocate public policies that strengthen independent local businesses, promote economic equity, and protect the environment.
